Virginia Frances Sherrod
Virginia first appears on the 1850 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census. Then the 1860 and 1870. On the 1870 she is Frances (20). According to the Lynn Cheek who did a listing of the cemetery at "Deep Creek Baptist Church in Jenkins Co, GA, Frances Sherrod is the husband of Augustus R. Oglesby. Since this is the only Frances Sherrod in the vicinity during this time frame, she must have married Augustus.
There are a number of Oglesbys duried here. I suspect many are her children and their descendants.

According to the list of graves at the cemetery where she is buried:

James Sherrod
1790 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census Shows:
Benjamin Sherrod - 1, 1, 2, 0, 2
William Sherrard - 2, 0, 0, 0, 0; ( I suspect this is Jame's father and another brother names William as in later census records, a William continues to reside here.)
John Sherrord - 2, 0, 3, 0, 16
______________________________________
Jame's son William was born July 22, 1807 in North Carolina so they must have moved to GA after that but before 1820
We can see that on the census records, James consistantly spelled his name as Sherod or Sherrod never Sherrard. Thus I feel it almost certain that James' father is Benjamin.

1 @ Female 10-15
We can see immediately that Elizabeth is not here. It would appear that Jame's wife has died. By examining the ages of the children we can determine that she almost certainly died 1810/1815.

6 633 633 Sherod Elizabeth 58 F Jeff Cty Ga
7 633 633 Sherod John H 19 M Farming Jeff Cty Ga
James states his age as 80 years and that he was born in Wayne Cty., NC. He is living with wife Elizabeth (58) born in Jefferson Cty. and son John H. (19) also born in Jefferson Cty.
There is another Sherod on this census also. William, age 6 months and born in Jefferson Cty. He is living with Warren Allen (26), his wife, Thany (Shany?) (27), and their child Lany (1 yr). They are visit #308. At visit #319 is Sherod Allen (58) and his family, wife Nancy (57), daughter Nancy E. (15), and son William (23). From past experience, it appears likely that Warren is the son of a Sherod and Sherod received his name from his mother who was also a Sherod and is probably a sister to James. Don't know exactly where little William fits in to this senario.

William Sherrod (Sherrard)
1790 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census (Page 150) list: Sherrard, William - 2, 0, 0, 0, 0
2 @ Male > 16; one obviously William.

1 @ Male 26/45; William
3 @ Females <10
1 @ Female 16/26; his wife
6 @ slaves
This emplies that William is younger, rather than older. He has three young girls so his wife is probably very near to 26 which would emply that he is probably less than 40

Looking for information on the family of Thomas Sherrod and Purtandy Walden, married in Rutherford county Tennessee 2-22-1836 (from June Boyer's "Our Heritage".) Purtandy and Thomas lived in Williamson county Texas in 1850, but by 1877 were living in Bells, Crockett county, Tennessee. Purtandy is shown as the daughter of William and Nancy Walden, and sister of Richard Ervin Walden, b. 10-16-1818 d. 10-8-1903 m. Mary Melissa Leek 1-25-1843, who settled in Howard county, Arkansas.Children shown are:1. James Sherrod b. 18362. Rachael Sherrod b. 18383. Buford Sherrod b. 18394. Mary Sherrod b. 1842 m. June Boyer in her book "Our Heritage" gives Purtandy's parents as William and Sarah Walden and shows their children as:1. Cornelia D. Walden b. 1817 m. James H. Gibbs 1853, no children2. Richard E. Walden b. 10-16-1818 d. 10-8-1903 m. Mary Leek 1-25-18433. Purtandy D. Walden b. 1820 m. Thomas Sherrod 2-22-1836.4. Erastus F. Walden b. 1822 m. Paralee Leek 1845, sister of Mary Leek5. John Walden b. 1823 d. 1898 m. Nancy (Mary) Young 3-19-18456. Rowena Walden b. 18257. William Walden b. 18288. Susan Malvina Walden b. 1830 d. 3-27-1872 m. James Bennett 6-17-1853John M. and Nancy Mary (Young) Walden are my second great grandparents and I'm trying to document his parents. I did find John and Nancy in Williamson co., TX in 1850 (M432 Roll 916, Milam and Williamson District, Williamson county, TX; Page 340, Dwelling 139/150 - enumerated 9 September 1850) and next door to them (Dwelling 140/151) is Hugh Walden, also aged 27, also born in Alabama.Bess Hester is a descendant of Hugh (Thomas Hughell and Rachel [Hays] Walden) and believes they were brothers.I find that Purtandy and siblings were born in TN, and John M. is consistent in census records that he was born in Alabama, so I tend to think he is not Purtandy's brother. However, I'm open to discussion either way. The surname is spelled differently in each census (Walden, Waltron, Walton) but each time he shows Alabama as his birth place. We have copies of the Bible pages listing his and Nancy's birth/death dates as well as some of their children's birth dates -- but no info on his parents or siblings. From June, I understand that Richard Ervin Walden of Howard county, AR is Purtandy's brother.Do you show a brother John for Purtandy? And Richard? Thanks,Blick

WILL-LEGATEE: NCWILLS-WL5 p. 83, father ALEXANDER SHEARER dated 10 Jul 1732; given father's land in Virginia when he is 21. This would imply that Alexander was less than 21 in 1732. The LDS record indicates he was born in 1701. Clearly that can not be correct. He must have been born aft 1712.
