Joel Sherrrod (our line) b date not known was living in Northampton co., NC during the Rev War, sold out 31 Aug 1808. Joel had land grants in Tn.: Maury 1807; Williamson 1799; Davidson 1783 and Washington in 1777. He was taxed on 6 slaves in Maury Co. in 1811. Known children were William b 1 Ap 1788 buried Goshen Ark. Have photo of he and wife's grave; m Charlotte Miller; Mary Sherrod born 4 Mar 1791, d 19 Sept 1862 in bond co., Il, m Henry Sawrey; Arthur Sherrod (ours)b 1794, d 30 Jan 1873 in Benton Co., Ark., md Susan Ewing 23 July 1816 and md 2nd Elizabeth Hedges McCall on Oct 2, 1865. The only info I have on Susan Ewing is that she was born ca 1796 SC; md 23 July 1816 in Hickman Co., Tn. and died ca 1860-64 in Benton Co., Ark. I hope this helps. thanks, Margaret Newby Swanzy

Arthur Sherrod and Susan Ewing were my ggg grandparents. Information I have found over the internet shows Arthur's father as another Arthur (b 1760 in NC, m 1785 in NC to Susan ?) Your genealogy lists his father as Joel. May I ask the particulars on your source of information? Also, do you have any information on Susan Ewing?

A post to the Sherrod Family Genealogy Forum by Joy Stefan (concerning Arthur's brother William)indicates that Arthur & William were both Methodist Ministers and both served in the War of 1812.

Ernie: My information came from William Yates of Yates Publishing Company back in 1988. He had extensive Sherrod info. His source came from Mary Enos, who may or may not be still living. She apparently had done extensive research on the Sherrods. William Sherrod, the son of John and Mary left a will in 1788, Northampton Co., Nc. He married Keziah(named in will) and the children named in will were: 1. Arthur Sherrod, born 1758 died 1831. This may the Arthur that you have as our Arthur's father. He did service in the Rev. War. This arthur was accepted in the DAR, so you might check that record. His children were: Susan b 27 Aug 1792, Martha b 13 Oct 1794,James b 26 Ap 1798, John B. b 3 Feb 1801 and m 1 Sarah T.E. Nicholson, and 2 Rhoda, Arthur b 20 Ap 1804 m Martha J. Darden, Benjamin b 5 Sept 1807 m Sarah D. Harris, and Sally Patience b 21 June 1810 m Josiah Willis Parker. The above Arthur may have been the one you are referring to as the son of Arthur. 2. Benjamin Sherrod died before his father. Brother Arthur was admr. of his will and gurardian of his children. 3.
