Benjamin Sherrod (Sherrard)

Benjamin is on the Voter Registration Rolls for Wayne Co, NC in 1779. Since Benjamin was a voter, he must have been a property holder and was thus most likely at least 21 years old. This places his birth before 1758.

1790 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census list: SHERROD, Benjamin, 1,1,3,0,2
1 @ Male >16; Benjamin
1 @ Male <16, a son
3 @ Females; wife and two daughters probably
From the above we can be reasonably certain that Benjamin was born prior to 1758. Ben is the only Sherrod in Wayne Co, NC at this time so he must be the father of James Sherrod who appeared in Georgia in around 1800 or so.

1800 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census list: Sherrard, Benjamin 1 1 1 1 . 3 1 . 1 . . 7 .
1 @ Male 0-10; presumably a son
1 @ Male 10-16; presumably a son
1 @ Male 16-26; presumably a son. This is probably the son that appeared on the 1790 census.
1 @ Male 26-45; presumably Benjamin. This emplies he was born no earlier than 1755.
3 @ Females 0-10, presumably daughters
1 @ Female 10-16; presumably a daughter
1 @ Female 26-45; presumably his wife

Henry Sherrod

1790 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census list this individual as <16.
1800 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census list him as 16-26 which means he had to be at least 6 in 1790. Hense his birth was 1775/1784.

Patience Sherrod

This daughter is on the 1790 Wayne Co, NC censu and on the 1800 Wayne Co, NC census is 10-16. This emplies she was no more than 6 in 1790 so her birth must have been aft 1784.

Sherrod

This daughter is not on the 1800 census. She must have either died or married,

Sherrod

This son did not show up on the 1790 census but is said to be over 10 years old on the 1800 so it seems probable that he was born just after the 1790 census.

William Sherrod (Sherod)

1790 Pitt Co, NC Federal Census lists:
William Sherod Dist. of Newbern Pitt Page 146 1-0-3-0-14
1 @ Male > 16; William
3 @ Females; apparently his wife and two daughters
14 @ Slaves

From this, it is probable that William was born before 1770. Married before 1786 and his wife was most likely also born before 1770.

1800 Pitt Co, NC Federal Census: The Family is no longer resident.

Robert Sherrod (Sherrard)

1800 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census list: Sherrard, Robt 3 . 1 . . 1 . . 1 . . 1 .
3 @ Males 0-10, presumably sons
1 @ Male 16-26; Robert. He has 4 children so must be very close to 26 years old.
1 @ Female 0-10, presumably a daughter
1 @ Feamle 26-45; his wife. The number of children emplies they were married about 8-10 years ago.
1 @ Slave

Robert is not on the 1790 Wayne Co, NC Census by name. However, there was an unknown male living with William Sherrod on the 1790 census. Neither were married at the time. Now William is married and has children and Robert suddenly shows up. It may be that Robert and William are brothers (Robert the younger of the two).

John Sherrod

1779 Voters List from Dobbs (later Wayne) Co, NC list John Sherrod
Since he was a voter, he must have been a land owner and hense at least 21 so I have placed his date of birth as before 1758.

1790 Wayne Co, NC Federal Census lists: Page 150, Newbern Dist., John Sherrord 2-0-3-0-16
2 @ Males >16; one of these would be John. The other is presumably a son
3 @ Females; presumably his wife & 2 daughters
16 @ Slaves

John is not on the 1800 Census of Wayne Co, NC

Aaron Tomlinson

In the book Family Heads 1805 Georgia, we find an ArronTomlinson, living in Jefferson Cty., d. 1828 at 68 yrs. with a note that his widow married a Chisolm. The connection is here but I don't quite see it yet. There are a number of other Tomlinsons mentioned in the book.

1820 Jefferson Co, GA Federal Census lists: 16,4, Tomlinson, Aaron,
020001/22010/0(21)0/0392/09(10)1/100000000
2 @ Males 10-15
1 @ Male over 45; Aaron (60 yrs old, died in 1828)
2 @ Females 0-10
2 @ Females 10-16
1 @ Female 26-45; this wouls appear to wife Sylvia. But then who is Sylvy Chisolm above?

Silvia

First Will of Silvia Chisolm (pages 327-328 of Houston CtyWill Bk.):
...son William Chisolm... unto Henry B. Todd and Littleberry Bostick in trust for my daughter Elizabeth Sherrod and her children...my daughter Mary Coley...granddaughter Sarah Sherrod daughter of Elizabeth Sherrod... Silvia chisolm (X). Wit. John Blecher, Washington Belcher, M.A.M. Bostick

Second Will of Silvia Chisolm (page 326-327 of will Bk):
...daughter Mary Colley, land where on I now live...daughter Elizabeth sherrod...son William Tomlinson...grandsons Joseph and John Sherrod, land in Henry and Cherokee Ctys....friend Henry I Turner, Executor... Silvery Chisolm (X). wit J.P. Turner, JohnR. Clark, J.H. Turner.

It would seem reasonable to assume that Joseph and John were born after 1829 as they are not named in the first will. Granddaughter, Sarah is not mentioned in the second so she may have died or married. How did William's name change from Chisolm to Tomlinson?

In the book Family Heads 1805 Georgia, we find an ArronTomlinson, living in Jefferson Cty., d. 1828 at 68 yrs. with a note that his widow married a Chisolm. The connection is here but I don't quite see it yet. There are a number of other Tomlinsons mentioned in the book.
