He died at hishome in Sumter District, S. C. March 12, 1810. He was married in 1753 toKeziah Lott, daughter of Mark Lott (whose relationship to Mark Lott in Vol.I has not been definitely determined, but were evidently closely related).To Mr. & Mrs Manning were born five known children;1. Moses, Jr. B. 1755 M. Martha2. Melea B. 1757 M. Sarah Rodgers, dau. OfEtheired, 17803. Martin (R. S.) B. 1759 Never married, died 1796,Georgetown S. C. 4. William (R. S.) B. 1763 M. Margaret----------. Moved toGlynn County Ga.5. Mark B. 1764 Never marriedTwo daughters and a son, assumed to be such, were in the family in the1790 Census, but are unidentifiable.Moses Manning, Sr., was born, as thought, in New Kent County, Va. Andremoved to South Carolina about 1780. He Granted his first land in thatstate, 600 acres, May 5, 1788. It appears that later he moved to SumterDistrict. He died near Latta, S. C. In that county or district. He was aRevolutionary patriot, furnishing 1300 pounds of beef to the State militia,withother supplies,MANNING, MOSES, JR. 1755-2825WAYNEMoses Manning, a Revoultionary soldier and ancestor of most of theMannings of Wiregrass Georgia, was born in Virginia about 1755, a son ofMoses Manning, Sr. The family moved during the Revolution to South Carolinaand settled in Marion District, on or near the PeeDee River. His wife wasnamed Martha, born about 1765, but her maiden name has not been learned. ToMr. & Mrs. Manning were born ten children,vis.1. Melia B. 1785 M. Nancy Deer2. Annis B. 1787 M. Mary Harper, daul ofJames (Vol. I).In addition to these ten, there were two other sons according to oneauthority, and concerning whom nothing is known by the Complier at thistime, viz. John (who was said to have removed to England) and Matthias Manning.Moses Manning and family removed to Glynn County, Georgia in 1800, andsettled on a plantation which was named "Indigo"; Moses Manning died therein 1815. Record is found of a deed in Glynn County to this property, 200acres, from the ten children to their mother, dated Nov. 17. 1817 (Deed Book"G". [age 362); and a deed appears on page 380, same book, from the saidheirs and their mother to the said Joseph Manning, for 100 acres of a tractof 300 acres granted their said father, and which it is stated that he hadverbally exchanged to his son for a sorrell mare and $40 in money, but hadmade no deed.Mrs Martha Manning moved to Wayne County after her husband's death, anddied there in 1830 or 1831. Her will dated Sept. 24, 1830, was probatedthere March 7, 1831, and devised $1 each to her sons, Mathias, John, Joseph,Melechesedec, Meli Moses, and daughters Edney Parrott, Annis Harrison, FaithHead, Keziah Beckham , and gave the remainder of her estate to her childrenMartin and Nanch (or Ann), and grandson, John Head. She named her son,Moses, to be executor.Moses Manning served as a private in the South Carolina militia in 1782.All ot the ten children of Mr. and Mrs. Manning lived and died inWiregrass Georgia except Melea and Melchesadec, who returned to SouthCarolina and lived in the Barnwell District.CENSUS REFERENCES: 1790. SaidMoses (referred to here as 1) was born c1710 in New Kent Co., Va, and diedin Onslow Co., N. C., Jan. 2, 1791. He furnished supplies to theRevolutionary Army. Mrs Norma Tellevast Dowling of Hoboken was the firstdescendant of Moses Manning, 1 to become a member of the Daughters of theAmerican Revoltion on the record o f his contribution to the cause ofincependence. She was admitted April 14, 1972, National Number 568666,menber of John Floyd Chapter, (2) Her sister, Mrs Thelma Tellevast Thomas ofBlackshear, was the firstdescendant of Moses Manning, Sr. (Referred to herea II) the subject, to become a member of the Daughters of the AmericanRevolution on the record of his service. She was admitted at the same timeas her sister, member same chapter, her National Number 576966. She and hersister descend through Maj.
