He was in the Civil War. Joined the Georgia Reserves, Co. D, 1 (Symons). He was captured at Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill, Ga. and was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, MD.
After the death of his wife, he could not take care of the children. The girls were given up for adoption and the boys were put in Bethesda Home for Boys, Savannah, Ga.
He died at the home of L. A. Allen of heart failure. Statesboro Hearld, 11/18/1915

He lived with his grandfather for a time after his mother's death and was then was placed in Bethesda Home for Boys in Savannah, GA in the year 1903. He left without permission in 1909.
