Mary Sherrod

This could well be the Mary Sherrod (IRN 1365) who was thedaughter of John Sherrod (IRN 1353) and Hannah Dawson (IRN 1361). Thetime frame is correct. The possibility also exist that she is thedaughter of children from Thomas(2)(IRN 1092) or of children ofAlexander(2)(IRN 1094) or she could be the child of Arthur(3)(IRN1097), John(3)(IRN 1098), or William(3)(IRN 1099). Patience Sherrod (Sherard)(Sherod)

Her father was established there late in the 1700's. The date is an extrapolation

Joel Sherrod Sherrard

Description: , a Negro girl names Rymer from Samuel Williamson, page 279 of the Book of Deeds

Joel appears on numerous records throughout Georgia in the early 1800's. He apparently won three times in various land lotteries, twice in the same lottery by spelling his name differently, Sherod & Sherrod. He somtimes also spelt his name as Sherard like Wright does.He apparently lived in Montgomery Cty. but had land in Talbot, Wilkes, Irwin, and Appling in addition to his holdings in Montgomery.
This record extends from the middle 17th century to the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, a very long time. Could this actually be two Joel Sherrods, father and son?
I have also noticed that often when a woman married, one of her sons would be given her family name as first name. This would emply a relationship between Sherod Whiddon and Sherod Hutson with the Sherrod family through daughters marring into those families. I'll have to look into this eventually.
In documents in Houston Cty., Ga. Deed Book "F", page 425 & 505, reference is made to Joel on 1-10-1834 and 11-25-1835 concerning the promissory note of 4-18-1826. In these references Joel's last name is spelt Sherrad.
On the 1830 census, Elizabeth, Haywood, And Wright (Sherrard) Sherrod are all living relatively close together. There is most likely a significant attachment here. I think Joel is also involved. I suspect that Haywood is the son of Wright. Joel and Wright are brothers and Elizabeth was married to another brother now deceased.

Description: as that appears to be where Joel actually lived. The date is an extrapolation from the date of Joel's marriage to Lavinia Balthrop

Sarah 's name is found in the Montgomery Cty., Ga. Book of Deeds on page 242 wherein husband, Joel, Sarah and John Jones concluded a deal on 4-9-1803.
