Benjamin Franklin Sherrod

I am making an assumption that B. F. is the child of Thomas and Ruth based on his position in the cemetery. So this could be incorrect.

I have been trying to find out as much as I can on the Texas Sherrods. I have a copy of a army discharge for Pvt. William Sherrod from the Republic of Texas Army, September, 1836 but I cannot find the connection to me. I don't know where he came from because his discharge only mentions that he emmigrated to Texas in February 1836, but from where? It doesn't mention. Also, My great grandfather, Ben Sherrod and my grandfather, Charles Ward Sherrod are both buried in White County Cemetary near Griffithville, Arkansas. My father, Lilbourne Wayne Sherrod is a retired U. S. Army Colonel living in El Paso, Texas. He was born at Griffithville, Arkansas on October 16, 1913.

(From this I am deducing that Charles Ward is the son of this Benjamin.

know we're connected. just not sure how. my grandfather, Reaves Williams, was born in 1906 around the White Co. area. Reaves' grandfather, Egbert Williams (1840-1897), moved the family to the Grifithville area to farm in the early 1900s. Reaves' father was Roland Boyd Williams (1879-1962). who married Lela Bell Creason (1887-1986). They're both barried in Walker Township around Griffithsville. Lela Belle Creason's father was Andrew Barkley Creason. Her mother was Mary Rebecca Sherrod. Andrew was from TN and he married Mary Sherrod in Walker Township in White Co. ARK on 12/22/1880. after that i don't have much on the Sherrods.

Thank you very much for your reply. I know Ben F. Sherrod was a brother to my great-great- granndmother Mary Sherrod Bowman Flowers Bradbury. She is with him on the 1880 Census with my great- grandmother Laura C. Allen. You have given me a clue on their father and I will go from there. If I could help or answer questions of my line let me know at sonilapee@home.com. Thanks Soni

also:

My grandfather was Charles Ward Sherrod and he was born in Texas, however, he lived most of his life in Arkansas. It was in a small town called Griffithville in White County. My father was born there and he is still alive living in El Paso and retired from the U.S. Army. There are other Sherrods in the cemetary in Arkansas and we have contacted the White County Clerks office and the local library for additional information. Any information on these Sherrods would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am trying to find my ancestor William Sherrod who served in the Republic of Texas Army from February 1836 to Sept 1836. I need to find out where he came from when he enlisted to fight for Texas Independence.

William Annie Duggar

George W. Sherrod

Posted by C W Sherrod to the Sherrod Family Genealogy Forum:
Looking for anyone who has information on any Sherrods (George W. and son, Manning M., in particular) that lived in a tiny community near Wedowee called Gold Ridge. These Sherrods eventually moved to the Erath County area of Texas.

My husband's father's name was Jesse Raymond Sherrod and he was born in Stephenville. His father's name was George Tuttle Sherrod and HIS father's name was Manning M. Sherrod. Jesse had four brothers, Archie, George,Jr., Bob, and Marshall. Marshall and Bob still live in Stephenville. Archie lives in California, and I'm not sure where George lives, but he is still alive. Jesse is the only one who has passed away. We are going to Stephenville in August to visit Marshall and hope to get some more Sherrod information then.
