Henry Best Sherrod

My ggg grandmother was Hepsah Sherrod daughter of Henry B. Sherrod and Anna Cogdell. On the other side of the lineage I had a gg grandmother Julia Ann Josephine Sherrod also supposedly the daughter of Henry B Sherrod and Anna Cogdell. I am confused and bewildered. Is there anyone who can help. My grandmother was raised in Lexington Ky. Her maiden name Cary. I do not know if Sherrod's were TN or what.

Chris, I believe James Lafayette Sherrod's parents were Henry Best Sherrod and Anna Cogdell Sherrod, and he was born in 1826 in Duplin County, NC, and moved to Henderson County, TN about 1830. His wife was Julia Holland, and our records show he died in AR in 1888. I can furnish you more information on Sherrods if you wish, including pedigree and siblings if you like.

Excuse me busting in, Joan and Brian. Joan, you mentioned" all the way back to Henry". Could you possibly mean Henry Best Sherrod, b. 1786 near Saulston,N.C., son of Benjamin and Clarky Best Sherrod? Married first Sarah Wasden 1811, second Anna Cogdell in 1823. Lived Wayne and Duplin Co. N.C. and Henderson Co. Tenn. d.1860.

John Isaac Sherrod married Lucinda Deliah Absher in Navarro County, TX abt 1887. Lucinda was born ca 1866 as per the 1880 Navarro County, census. Anyone have any info on this couple?

J.I. and Lucinda had 3 chilren; 1. Maudie Mae 2. Ella 3. William Arthur Maudie married Allen Plas Dunn and had 1 child, Johnnie E. Dunn (my father). Allen died during a flu epidemic and J.I. helped to raise my fater. I believe that J.I. lived for a time with a family named Marshall. We do not know if he was adopted or what the situation was. I also believe that his father was Robert Sherrod, but have no proof. I have one picture of J.I. and lucinda.

James L. Sherrod Sr. married Alice G. Kirkland and then married Georgia W. Mitchum. In all these two wives gave him 14 children and two step children: Naoh, Ella, Kate, Eliza, Nita, Bertha, William (my GF), Lee, Gooley, B.J., James Jr, Inez, Margaret, Vera, Lynwood Mitchum Sherrod, Everette Mitchum Sherrod. BUT I CAN'T FIND HIS OLDER TWO BROTHER'S OTHER THAN THEY LIVED WITH THEIR UNCLE'S WILLIAM W HAYWOOD WHITE CO. ARK 1880.
