Benjamin and Mary also have a Miss Georgia Johnson, schoolteacher, staying with them. She could be related as the next family onthe census is Joseph Johnson who is married to Elizabeth Sherrod whosefather is William G. Sherrod. This could indicate family connectionsbetween both Georgia and Joseph and between Benjamin and Elizabeth.Their fathers might be brothers. Benjamin and wife Mary E.(26) havethe following children; Cava---ch(10-F), Laura V.(8), and Walton(6-M).He is a farmer of 34 years

1900 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Green(60) and Adalen (58) are with children; Elizabeth(19), K----y? (16-f), and S---tho (9-f). He is a farming and is 60 years old. The farm is owned free and clear and is #25 on the 'farmschedule'.
1910 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Green(71) and Adeline(62) have now been married for 40 years. They had eleven children but only six have survived. With them at this time is Joe (41) still single, Elizabeth (24) and still single, and Nettie (17).
On the 1850 census, there is a "Green" Sherrod (spelt Sherrord) (age 10).
He appears on the 1860 census as "Greenbury" (spelt Sherod this time)(age 20). No other Sherrod whose first name starts with a G is onthe census either year. It sems likely this is he. Also, "Green"Sherrod was in the Civil War and is on the 1870 census. Finally, onthe 1860 census, just three visits up from "Green" is Eli Roberts and family with Azelline (?) 15. This could very well be Adelen. On the1850 census, it is Azeline.
(Visit 158/159, Eli ROBERTS 61, Thomas 29, Elizabeth 26, Anna 20, John16, Azelline (?) 15 f, Daniel 12, William S. 9).
I did not see Green and family on the 1880 census forEmanuel Cty., Ga.. Did I miss them or are they living somewhere elseat the time?
Adalen Roberts
Greene(30) is living next door to his father with wifeEsyoline?(25) and children Joseph(2) and William(6 mo). Living withthem also is James Finily(50) from Ditching, Ire.

1860 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Benjamin is 45, Mary (Powell)(35), and the census states from North Carolina indicating Benjamin had lived there previous to 1842 as he married Mary in Emanuel Cty., Ga. then. Also with them are Greenbury (20) (Green in the 1850 census), Joseph (16), Benjamin (15),Virginia (11), John (10), Lemuiel-? (8), Milford (7), Mosel (4), Elizabeth (1) and Nancy Powell (30) and her daughter, Elizabeth (10). Nancy is probably the sister of Mary. She later married and moved out.
1870 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Visit # 80 finds Benjamin(50), Mary(46), Francis(20),John(18), Lemuel(16), Mulford(15), Moselle(12), Elizabeth(11) andBenjamin, Jr.(22). Francis was not a part of their family in the last census so she must be the daughter of a relative, probably a niece.
1880 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Benjamin is living with wife, Mary (55) and children; Lemuiel (22), Mosel (20), and Elizabeth (18)
1910 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census:
Where he is listed as 81 years old and born in Nov. 1818. He owns his farm free and clear. It is # 40 in the 'farm schedule'. Staying with him are son Lemueil (46)(born in 5-1854), daughte rElizabeth(38)(born in 8-1861) and a widow, daughter-in-law Addie(29)(born 7-1870) who has been married for one year, grandson Elliott?(17)(born 3-1883), and a black servant age 34 whose name is illedgible. His daughter Elizabeth had no children. Lemuiel's birthdate is given as 1854 but I think 1852 is more likely. Ellis is Lemuiel's child as Addie indicates she has had no children and been married for only a year. Addie must be the wife of either John or Joseph as all other children are accounted for. Joseph went off after 1860 and John after 1870. I would be inclined to say John just because of the ages.
Mary Powell
Mary is with husband Benjamin(25), Green(10), Joseph(5),Benjamin(3), and Virginia(1). Mary is 23 years old.
Description: with husband Benjamin(45) and children, Greenbury(20), Joseph(16), Benjamin(15), Virginia(11), John(10), Lemuiel-?(8-male), Milford(7), Mosel(4-female), Elizabeth(1), and Nancy Powell(30) and her daughter, Elizabeth(10).
Mary is living with husband Benjamin(45) and children,Greenbury(20), Joseph(16), Benjamin(15), Virginia(11), John(10),Lemuiel-?(8-male), Milford(7), Mosel(4-female), Elizabeth(1), andNancy Powell(30) and her daughter, Elizabeth(10).Nancy is probablyMary's sister or cousin. She will later marry and move out.
Visit # 80 finds Benjamin(50), Mary(46), Francis(20),John(18), Lemuel(16), Mulford(15), Moselle(12), Elizabeth(11) andBenjamin, Jr.(22). Francis was not a part of their family in the lastcensus so she must be the daughter of a relative, probably a niece.
Mary is living with husband, Benjamin(60), and children;Lemuiel(22), Mosell(20), and Elizabeth(18)
Mary is dead in 1900 as husband Benjamin is listed as awidow on the 1900 census of Emanuel Cty., Ga.
On the 1860 census, Nancy Powell (30) and Elizabeth Powell(10) are living with Mary and Benjamin. It seems probable that she isMary's sister. According to Emanuel Cty. marriage Bk A, Nancy appearsto have married James Davis on 5-5-1852. Now she is living with sis.James must have died in the last 8 years.
Joseph Sherrod
Description: via extrapolation
Description: living with his father, mother, and siblings
Description: where he is now 16 years old
Joseph disappears from Emanuel Cty after the 1860 census.Where did he go?
Moselle Sherrod
Description: probably since the family is also on the 1850 census
Description: living with her parents and siblings
Description: living with her parents and siblings
Description: living with her parents and siblings
Mosell disappears from view after 1880. she must havemarried and gone off but to whom and to where.
Benjamin Sherrod
1820 Emanuel Co, GA Federal Census (page 96, Line 30)
Benjamin Sherrod
3 Males <10, William & John & unknown
1 Male 26-45, Benjamin (born 1775-1795)
3 Females <10
1 Female 16-26, his wife (born 1794-1804). Presence of 6 children under 10 would indicate she is closer to 26 than 16.
Description: as recorded on pages 31,32,33 of Will Bk A
The Georgia Intestate Records show Benjamin's estate being administered by Joseph Dunn on 1-16-1843. This estate mentions a minor, Beneta, and minor, Susan being placed under the guardianship of William Sherod. Also mentioned are Sons William, Benjamin, and John. We find these three Sherods (now spelt Sherrord) on the 1850 census of Emanuel Co, GA living one after the other. This is very strong evidence for the connection between them. No mention is made of his wife, so she must already be dead at this time.
In the records, also, is another mention of a proceeding concerning the death of a Benjamin Sherrod (note diff. spelling) in which Thomas Drew was appointed administrator on 8-6-1836 in Emanuel Cty. This could be the same Benjamin as these cases sometimes dragged on for several years. Benjamin's son, William, was also an administrator of the will according to a notation in a newspaper at the time. Thomas Drew and Benjamin (spelt Sherrard) were appointed guardians of Martha and Robert Huckles, orphans of John Huckles. This implies that Benjamin died between 7-6-1835 & 8-16-1836.
Note on Thomas Drew: in 1894, a Mary Sherrod married a John Drew in Enamuel Cty., Ga.
Benjamin was listed as Tax defaulter along with James Sherard, Sr.
This is almost certainly the same James who is on the 1850 Bullock Co, GA census and list his birth as abt 1770 in SC. James was married to Elizabeth.

Looking for information on the ancestors of John P. Sherrod b. 1856 in Jenkins Co.,GA and married to Onia(?)Williams Futch(?). Someone said that he was named the same as his father, who was married to a Dicy___. I know of atleast one of his sisters, Elisa. Someone said that their parents were Benjamin and Boneeta(?). Would like to find someone who can verify this and possibly tell me more about the family. I don't know where John's family comes from, but I have heard of some Sherrods who lived in Martin Co.,NC. Thanks.
(Benjamin has a daughter named Beneta so it makes sense that his wife's name may have been Beneta.)

Susan Sherrod
Susan was put under the guardianship of brother William in 1843 but does not show up with him in the 1850 census so must have either died or married by then.
Lemuiel Sherrod
Description: living with his father, mother, and siblings
Description: living with his father, mother, and siblings
Description: living with his father, mother, and siblings
Lemuiel is listed as born in May 1854 though I think 1852more likely. He is living with his father(81) and is widowed. Also inthe household are a sister-in-law Addie(29), sister Elizabeth(38) andwidowed without children, and a grandson of his father's though Ican't tell if this is Lemuiel's son. This data indicates that Lemuielmarried after 1880 and his wife died before 1900. Addie is the wife ofone of his brothers. The grandson is most likely Lemuiel's son asAddie (the daughter in law), is only 29 and Ellis is 17. She wouldhave to have had him when she was only twelve which seems unlikely.
Lemuiel is living with Sister Elizabeth Davis now, neitherhaving remarried though Lemuiel is listed as single now.
Lemueil is living by himself, but brside his son, Ellis. He is 65 years old.
Unknown
This appears very likely as she and Lemueil had only theone child so far as I can tell. Since most people had a child everytwo years on average, it would be likely that she either died duringchildbirth or in the year or so after.
