John Henry Sherrod

John Henry Sherrod was the entrepeneur of his branch of the family. He bought and sold cattle and horses, real estate and was partners with his nephew J.C. "Claude" Waddell in the Waddell store in the Valdosta area of Tuscumbia. He took over the old Penick lands and with additional land on Hawk Pride Mountain was active in farming and land speculation for many years. He and his oldest son, Henry Floyd Sherrod donated land for both the hawk pride and Chapel Hill Churches of Christ in West Colbert County. His timber and sandstone also went into the reconstruction of Boy Scout Troop 49s clubhouse behind the First Presbyterian Church minister's home in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

John Henry Sherrod was dark complexioned and was known as "Black John" Sherrod. He numbered among his friends, A. H. Carmichael, Sr. Jack Wagnon (of Wagnon's Mt.) Joe Walker, Joe Foster (tax collector and son in law) D. W. matthews, Any McWilliams of Red Rock and George Gibson, the town blacksmith.

Funeral Services will be Held Friday Afternoon

W. T. Waddel, aged 79, well known resident of Colbert County for many years passed away at his home near Tuscumbia Wednesday Evening at 9 oclock following an illness of short duration.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Claude and Thomas Waddell, Five daughters, Mrs. C. E. Whiteside, Mrs. George Rickard, Mrs Huston Carroll, Mrs. Henry Alexander and Miss Mamie Waddell; a brother John Waddell and a sister Mrs. Callie Thornton and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be held Friday Afternoon at 1 oclock at the residence with James R. Greer minister of the Tuscumbia Church of Christ conducting the final rites. Internment will follow in the Walston cemetery with Spry's directing.

Active pallbearers will be Crawford Barnes, Jimmy Smallwood, Mose Kirkland, Rufus Porter, Joe Nichols and Dr. Charles Thigpen.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Ned Hovater, John Walker, Dr. W. M. Pierce, E. J. Henninger, Tom Smith, Charles Womble, Ed Grehsam and W. G. Halsey.

Julias was killed at a railroad crossing when the car in which he was a passenger stalled.

George Irvin Sherrod (Sherod)

George Irvin Sherrod abandoned his wife and family on Jan. 1, 1894 for reasons that are unknown. his wife was granted a divorce on September 12, 1896. His son Charles reverted to this mother's maiden name.

June 1911-Mrs. M.S. Brown and son have sold their Globe Restaurance to Mike Woods, Sr. who took possession yesterday.

In 1903 she moved to Harshorn I. T. After selling the restaurant she operated a candy store from 1913 to 1929.
