William and Mattie lived on Hywy. 80 between Blitchton andthe Ogeechee River. He ran a store and the post office in Ellabelleand also in Meldrim. He also had a sawmill at 'Oak Hill' which wasunusual because the saws were steam driven and moved verically insteadof circularly. The saws could be operated by a team of mules when thesteam engine wasn't working.
