Hattie Victoria Sherrod

Jacquelyn Mumbach <mailto:jackiemumbach@yahoo.com>, 5205 Riceville Road, West Valley, New York 14171 [jackiemumbach@yahoo.com] is looking for Abigail Bartlett from Sherrod Hill, Erie County, Pennsylvania. Abigail married Andrew Sherrod. They had a daughter (my great grandmother) Hattie Victoria Sherrod (born May 3,1871-died July 13, 1929), Nellie Sherrod, Lewis S. Sherrod, William Sherrod, and 2 other daughters. The Sherrod's moved to South Dakota when Hattie was a young woman. Hattie married Fred Henry Mooney (Circa 1890). In Hattie's death notice there was a reference to her being the great- great-great granddaughter of General Joseph Warren of the Revolutionary War. She would appreciate any information you may provide.

Berry V. Sherrod, a wide-awake, stirring young farmer of Goshen
Township, was born in Madison County, Ark., seven miles south of
Hindsville, where Garrett Williams lives. March 29, 1859, and is the
son of Sterling B. and Margaret (Lankford) Sherrod. The father was
born in Tennessee, and came to this county with his father. William
Sherrod, when a young man. Here he grew to maturity, and later in life
moved to where G. Williams lived. He was a farmer. He died in 1864,
and his wife died just three weeks and two days before his death. They
left a family of eight children. Seven of the family died within seven
months, leaving only three children, of whom our subject is the only
one positively known to be living. He was reared an orphan, began
farming when quite young, and this occupation he has since continued.
June 24, 1877, Miss Mary K. Wilkerson became his wife, and to them
were born five children: Sterling T., Eva M., Arva L., William V. and
Mamie. The same year of his marriage Mr. Sherrod settled on the farm
where he now resides, which consists of 181 acres, fifty acres being
rich bottom land, and ninety acres under cultivation. He has a nice
home, and has succeeded well.

Salathiel Sherrod

Notes for SALATHIEL SHERROD: Salithiel was mentioned in his father 's will. He is known to have fought in the War of 1812 and to have been in Mississippi in 1840. When his brother Robert Sherrod died, the care of Robert's children was taken over by Salathiel. In the Martin County deed book F, p. 241 he is named as son of Robert and Lydia Llewellyn Sherrod. Salathiel is found in Canton, MS, Amite County, MS, with John Llewellyn Sherrod and William. Will and Testament, provided by Ron Tyner, 9875 Quail Rd., Olive Branch, MS 38654-8366: The last Will and Testament of Salathiel Sherrod, State of Mississippi, Desoto County, September 8th 1946. I Salathiel Sherrod Sr. do make and publish this my last will and Testament truly revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time here tofro made and first, I direct that my body be decently interred Said County of Desoto in a manner suitable to my condition in life and as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to entrust me with I despose of the same as follows: First, I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible. Out of any money that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executors from any portion of my estate real or personal. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son Richard Sherrod a negroe boy West now in his possession, also a girl named Jane Colier and Bunton. I give and bequeath to my son Salathiel Sherrod a negroe named Bob here in his possession and negroe boy named Hannah Mary Tom and Agustus a negroe woman named Hasty and Fanny. Next I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsy J. Stanton Rosette Cassel and her children also negroe man named Drew during his natural life and then to the lawful heir to his body. To my daughter Sarah Bishop I give and bequeath a negroe woman named Minney and Malinda and their increase also a negroe boy named West during her natural life and then to the lawful heir of her body. (Page 112 Final Records bk 5 1846-1848). To my daugher Nancy Bishop I give and bequeath two negroe girls named Rebecca and Huldah and negroe man named Austinand what tools I have at Moses Bishops. Secondly, I give to my daughter Sarah Bishop one feather bed and furniture now at Moses Bishops. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy a Note of hand on Joseph C. Smith's estate. Last, I divide all my other effects not here in Willed be Sold and retained by my executor Salathiel Sherrod for the purpose of defraying the expenses of any lawsuit if any may take place for the term of three years he paying interest on the same and then pay the said amouunt over to Sarah Bishop. I do hereby appoint my beloved son Salathiel Sherrod Executor of this my last will and Testament. In alitness hereof I Salathiel Sherrod Sr. the said Testator have to my last will on one sheet of paper set my hand and seal day and date above written signed sealed and published in the presence of us who have subscribed in the presence of the Testor and of each other. Named in fathers Will 1800 Martin Co, NC, Martin Co, NC 1810 Census, Montgomery Co, Tn. 1820 Census, 1830 Carroll Co, Tn Census, 1840 Carroll Co, Tn Census, Sept 8th, 1846 Will Probated Final Records Desoto Co, Ms page 112. Excutor of Will Salathiel Sherrod Jr of Panola Co, Ms. Childern named Betsy J Staton, Nancy Mary Bishop, Sarah J Bishop and Richard Sherrod. Will finalized Feb of 1849, FR page 112. Inventory of Estate Oct 5th 1846 Desoto Co, Ms FR page 148. Executors Bond 5th of Oct 1846 Desoto Co, Ms, (Salathiel Sherrod Jr, Stephen Williams Gran Bouldin and Eli McMullins). Letters Testamentary Oct 6, 1846. Excutors Bond Feb 7th, 1848 Desoto Co, Ms. Salathiel Sherrod, R S Manning and Green Bouldin). The wife of Salathiel is most likely buried in Desoto, Co as he had a wife on the Cencuces or an elderly female the same age as he, also there are two female Sherrods buried in Hernando 1845 and 1846 Delilah and Liddiah. He stated in his Will that he wanted to be buried in Desoto Co. He paid Personal Taxes in Desoto Co, Ms first in 1843. Salathiel Sherrod Jr is first mentioned in Gibson Co, Tn in 1828 marring Hannah Haynes. He is mentioned in Gibson County till he moved to Panola Co, Ms 1838. Panola Co, Ms Census 1840, Phillips Co, Ar 1850-60, Lee Co. Ar 1870 died 1879 and probated 1880 Lee Co, Ar. Salathiel Sherrod III born 1849 in Phillips Co, Ar. 1850-60- on fathers Census Report.

Salathiel was in Carroll Co, Tn from 1827-44. Carroll Co Court Minutes first appears on Contempt of Court, one dollar fine. Gibson Co was Salathiel Sherrod Jr who married Hannah Haynes. TJ was the son of Richard Sherrod and Mildred Milly Haynes. TJ moved to Ar 1859, back in Desoto Co, MS in 1861. Robert 1857 Ar, John 1864 MS, William Thomas 1866 Ms, Elizabeth E 1870 Ar, Turner James Jr 1871 Ar.
