Notes
Robert Sherrod II
With brother Arthur, inherited plat of land on the Little Swamp containing 300 acres:
WILL-LEGATEE: NCWILLS-WL5 p. 83, father ROBERT SHEARER dated 27 Oct 1727; given 300 acres of land at Little Swamp along with brother ARTHUR
Moved to Martin Co., NC
Phillip Haines Sherrod gives his death as 1779 but this seems most unlikely.
Roberts father's will does not indicate he is a minor though it does so with several other children. Hence, we can assume he was not a minor in 1732. That would place his date of birth as before 1714.
Lydia
Gayle places Lydia's birth date as about 1733 which seems unlikely else she would have been only 12 years old when James was born. We know that James could not have been born much after 1745 as he purchased land in 1766. I suspect that Lydia was born much closer to the time of her husband.
John Sherrod III
Notes for JOHN SHERROD, III:
John Sherrer Sr. deeded to "Elizabeth Sherrer, the widow of John Sherrer, Jr., the plantation which she now lives on to fall to John Sherrer my grandson." (i.e., John Sherrod III) Executor: "My son, Alexander."
John Shearer III was raised by the widow of John Shearer, Jr.
The will of John Sherrod III was dated 1751. It was witnessed by John Dawson who was probably the bother of Hanna Dawson, John's wife. Harold Sherrod Whitlock has a copy of the will.
John Dawson was Colonel of the militia of North Hampton, NC in 1748. He mobilized the militia in 1748 because of the possibility of an invasion by the Spanish. Arthur Sherrod, son of Robert Sherrod, was a member of Colonel Dawson's militia.

Hannah Dawson
Sister of Colonel John Dawson who commanded the Northampton Militia at the time of "The Spanish Alarm." Arthur Sherard, John III's cousin, was a lieutenant in this regiment. Dawson also served in the General Assembly, as a member of the Governor's Council and as a member of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, He later was executor of the will of John Sherard III which was made in 1751. The other executor was his son, Thomas Sherard. Thomas later moved to Franklin County, NC with his neighbor, Green Hill, from Northampton County. They served in the Franklin County Militia during the Revolution as First Major and Second Major respectively. Interesting also, both Thomas Sherrod and Green Hill in May 1779 represented Franklin County in the first session of the North Carolina Assembly.

Mary Sherrod
Notes for MARY SHERROD:
It is believed that Mary Sherrod was Robert's sister. Mary Sherrod is shown in the census of 1784. A deed dated Sept. 1769 selling land on Uraha Swamp is signed by Robert Sherrod, Elizabeth, and Mary. The note says Mary "Surrendered her dower rights," suggesting she inherited the land along with Robert.
Notes for ROBERT SHERROD:
In his will of August 4, 1753, John Sherrod left his son Robert the home plantation as well as one mare and colt and "one negro slave named York."
Later Robert appears in 1762 as a taxpayer in Northampton County. In September 1769, this Robert Sherrod, his wife, Elizabeth, and Mary Sherrod of Northampton County deeded to Joseph White of Perquimmons County for 87 pounds, 10 shillings, 190 acres which had been a patent to John Sherrod III March 24, 1741, "Who gave it to his son, Robert Sherrod by will, on the north side of Uraha Swamp, joining Thomas Vinson." Indeed the 1741 patent from Gaberiel Johnston, Royal Governor, #2187, Patent Book 5, Bertie County, to John Sherar III describes the 190 acres exactly as Robert did some 28 years later.
At the time of the North Carolina state census of 1784-87, Robert was dead. Elizabeth, his wife, appears as head of household on page 114. Mary Sherrod is close by and appears as head of household on page 113.
Jonas Sherrod
Notes for JONAS SHERROD:
Will dated 1760; witnessed by Samuel Thomas. Samuel Thomas is married to Elizabeth Sherrod, sister of John (will of 1751) according to Worth S. Ray.
Benjamin Sherrod
Notes for BENJAMIN SHERROD:
Benjamin Sherrod died in ca. 1776, leaving no will; his wife Mary was appointed administrator of his estate and filed an inventory 12. Nov. 1777 in Halifax County, NC.
Mary Ricks
Letter from Jos. Ricks in Castle Gate, Utah to Ben W. Sherrod, dated Sep. 17, 1898
Dear Sir:
Replying to your favor of Aug. 16, forwarded to me from Logan, the Sherrods intermarried with our family around 1780. I am unable to give you the name of the Sherrod that married Mary Ricks about that time. Both families lived near each other in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. I think likely if you would write the county Clerk of that County he could furnish you from old records, the information desired.
Yours truly, Jos. Ricks
============
It appears Mary was pregnant with Benjamin when her husband died.

According to Virginia & North Carolina Genealogy Exchange, Isaac & Patience also had a daughter named Mary who married Benjamin Sherrod. However, Phillip Haines Sherrod, indicates that Mary was the daughter of Abaham Ricks and Anne Ross. I will go with Phillip till more compelling evidence comes to light.

James Sherrod
Gayle places his birth as about 1745 but I feel it was earlier.
In 1766 he purchased 990 acres of land from Robert Jenkins Henry of Somerset County, Maryland, which included a section of Roanoke River front known as Rainbow Banks. This particular bank of the Roanoke near Hamilton served first as a dividing marker for the boundary line between Tyrrell and Halifax Counties prior to the formation of Martin Co. in 1774, and later was the site selected for a fortification known as Fort Branch.
This land stayed in the James Sherrod family until the early 1900's when John Henry Sherrod, the great-great gandson of James, and his wife, Elizabeth Bryan, great-great grandaughter of John Sherrod, sold the land and moved to Enfield in Halifax County.
Randall Sherrod
1790 Martin Co, NC Federal Census (Halifax District), Page 68
Randall (name spelt Sherrord) is living a few houses away from brother Lewis. A few houses away are Robert & John (Sherrord) living side by side. Randall living alone and has one slave.
Robert Sherrod III
1790 Martin Co, NC Federal Census (Halifax District), Page 68
Robert (name spelt Sherrord) is living next to John (Sherrord) (his brother?). Robert is living with
4 males under 16 (John, Salathiel, Robert, Wilson), five females (Lydia, Abbay, Sabra, Sally, & Polly)
and nine slaves. Several house away are Lewis and Randall Sherrord, his cousins.

Edwina, I apologize for taking so long to respond. The Abstracts of Will Books 1 and 2, 1774-1868, for Martin Co., NC, included the wills of both Robert Sherrod and his wife Lydia Llewellyn Sherrod. BOTH of them list Abba Shivers (Robert's will dated December 25, 1800) and Abbey Shivers (Lydia's will dated November 24, 1820. Also included are:
Robert's will: Sons John, Salathiel, Robert and Wilson. Daughters Abba Shivers, Salra Hyman, Salley Weathersbee, and Polly Best.
Lydia's will: Sons John, Salathiel and Wilson (Note: Robert had died ca 1810/1811). Daughters, Sabray Hyman, Salley Manning and Polly Best. Also mentions Abbey Shivers and children of John Sherrod and children of Robert Sherrod.
I hope this helps - it seems clear that your Abbey Shivers is the daughter of Robert and Lydia Sherrod.

John Sherrod
It appears to me that John must be the brother of Robert Sherrod the III. John's children were born abt 1770 to 1780 range which would have to make him born abt 1750, which would make him born abt the same time as Robert.
John William Llewelleyn
John William Llewellyn and his wife, Frances, settled in Norfolk County, Virginia after moving from St. Mary's County, Maryland in the mid 1700's. In this county, five children were born to them. The Llewellyn family were communicants of the Church of England and worshiped at a small chapel called St. Martin's in the little town of Hamilton. They did not approve of the American Revolution and believed that the Church of England would 2 CONT not survive in America if the colonists were successful in breaking away from England. They were thus considered to be Tories.John Llewellyn's will is recorded in the Archives at Portsmouth dated 1-28-1751.
Frances Culpepper
Frances Llewellyn came to Tyrrell County in from Norfork, Virginia in the early 1760's from Norfork, Virginia, as a widow with son John and several daughters. She died in North Carolina in 1775. The part of Tyrrell County where the Llewellynlived became Martin County, NC.Frances Llewellyn's will was recorded in Martin County, NC dated 11-29-1770:
