Hello all! My great grandfather's full name was William Kinchlow Sherrod, but he chose to go by Kinch since William was obviously so popular in my family! My great great grandfather's name was Samuel W. (though I am not sure what the W. stood for). It's also possible he was born in Tennessee (Fayette County) as was my great great grandmother Mary Ruth. If anyone can give me further info, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also my other great uncle Eugene ("Uncle Genie") died on December 10, 1991 with his son John dying two days prior on December 8, 1991 in Greenville, KY. Genie was 98 and John was 69. If anyone has any leads on any of these family members, please contact me. Thanks!

John's Grandson (John Jacob Sherrod) also married an Elizabeth Watson. This seems strange. I think these is a mix up here and that John's wife was not Elizabeth Watson as the Elizabeth Watson that married the grandson is better documented.

Henson Cemetery 100% indexed September 1997. Indexed by Helen Staten
Arnold and Nick Denley.
Henson Cemetery is about 2.5 miles E. of Hwy.35 on the Cascilla Road
This was a family cemetery.
This Cemetery updated, corrected and proofed February 1999.
The land was given for the cemetery by James Anthony Shannon. He
owned several hundred acres around this cemetery. The families of
Staten, Shannon, Mullen, Newton and Pressgrove and the rest of the
folks buried here are related by birth or marriage.
I have placed some of my grandparents, Thomas & Selia Staten, Harvey
and Betsy Elizabeth Sherrod Staten in this cemetery, because I do not
know where they were buried. The land patent office shows that Thomas,
and Harvey Staton purchased land in this area in the early 1800's. I
have no dates of death and the birth dates are estimated from the census.

Linda, I believe the Sherrod succession is as follows:
John Sherer (Sherrod) (1) was in Isle of Wight, VA in the 1660's with a land grant for 1050 acres on the Blackwater river. He married a "Mrs. Dew". His will showed John, Jr., Thomas, Robert (2) and Alexander. Robert (2) inherited land in Northampton Co (then Bertie Co) NC. married Elizabeth ? and died in 1727. They had Robert (3), Arthur, John, William, Prudence and Susannah.
Robert (3) moved to Martin Co NC, married Lydia ??, and died in 1779, leaving the following: James, Robert (4), John, Delilah and Elizabeth. Robert (4) married Lydia Llewellyn (sister of John Llewellyn, a noted Tory). Robert (4) was born ca 1753 and died in 1800. They had John, Salathiel (5), Robert (5), Wilson, Abbay, Sabra, Sally and Polly.
Salathiel (5) was mentioned in his father Robert (4)'s will. He is known to have fought in the War of 1812 and to have been in MS in 1840. The family always has believed that Salathiel was (5) in our succession, but new information indicates that his brother Robert (5) was married to Lucretia Weathersby and that they had John Llewellyn Sherrod (6) and William. John and William apparently accompanied Salathiel through TN into MS. I believe William later went to Arkansas, but have nothing factual to support this.
John (6) (b. April 7, 1804, d. February 20, 1860), married Lucinda Weathersby (b. April 12, 1812, d. August 10, 1878) before 1833. They went to Johnson City, TN, then to Amite Co, MS, then to Scottsville, TX ca 1840. I have seen their gravestones in the private cemetery on the old homestead land 1/2 mile south of I20. John and Lucinda had twelve children: Lawrence Llewellyn, Temperance Elizabeth, Kenneth M., John Henry, Charles W., Allie F., William Robert (7), Anne, Lou Hatton, Erie, Llewellyn, and Paul J.
William Robert (7) (b. ca 1850, d. July 18, 1928) m. Frances Hensley (b. ca 1846, d. ca 1927). They had William Robert, Louis Llewellyn, Stuart, Carrie, Vivian, Lucille, Henry Felix (8) and Hilary. Henry Felix (8) m (1) Sarah Anne Campbell. They had Sara Elizabeth Sherrod (9), who married Albert H. Cloud, Sr. In turn, they had Albert Jr (10) [that's me], Mary Frances, and Sara Elizabeth.

Al and Linda,I was very interested in your messages on GenForum I believe Thomas Wilson Shivers and Abigail Sherrod Shivers are my great great grandparents.
My grandmother was Ann Mathis Cole, b. May 02, 1822 I think in Davidson Co. TN m. Henry Deal June 15, 1838 in Davidson Co. TN.
Anna Mathis Cole Deal was the daughter of Lydia Shivers married to Pilmore Cole
Will of Thomas Shivers, Microfilm Roll, 305, Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Archives Recorded Will Book 9, pages 328 August 25, 1829 names wife Abigail as executor, and names a daughter Lyddy Cowle, a son Jonas, and a grandson, Henry Holt, and a son-in-law Robert Holt.
Abigail Shivers Dec'd Inventory March 9th 1844 and Abigail Shivers A/C of Sales Recorded 28th August 1844, Davidson County, TN Will Book 13, pp. 81-83 Transcribed by Gary W. Willis, 2/7/2002. shows Henry Holt, Jr. as administrator, and shows a John N. Cole, and a John Shivers, and a Jonas Shivers and a Henry Deal as purchasers of some of the estate items..
Will of Pilmore Cole, Micro Film Role 305-3 Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Archives, Recorded Will Book 9, Pages 275 and 276 Feb. 23, 1829, State of Tennesee Davidson County Court January Sessions 1829 bequest to wife, Lydia Cole, his estate.
Another source referring to Abigail Sherrod Shivers is in Dr. Marcus Shivers' book, "Shivers Genealogy" Salt Lake City. UT, Deseret New Press. 1950 , Page 231.
Do you think that your Abba Shivrs or Abbay could be my Abigail Sherrod Shivers?.
Thomas Wilson Shivers; will spells it Abergale. A friend sent me a Pedigree Chart showing Abigail Sherd.
Anna Mathis Cole, had a younger sister named Abbie. Other siblings were Temperance, Sallie, Mary, James, and John Nicholas. Cole. With the similarities of some of the names, I just wonder. Edwina

Edwina, I apologize for taking so long to respond. The Abstracts of Will Books 1 and 2, 1774-1868, for Martin Co., NC, included the wills of both Robert Sherrod and his wife Lydia Llewellyn Sherrod. BOTH of them list Abba Shivers (Robert's will dated December 25, 1800) and Abbey Shivers (Lydia's will dated November 24, 1820. Also included are:
Robert's will: Sons John, Salathiel, Robert and Wilson. Daughters Abba Shivers, Salra Hyman, Salley Weathersbee, and Polly Best.
Lydia's will: Sons John, Salathiel and Wilson (Note: Robert had died ca 1810/1811). Daughters, Sabray Hyman, Salley Manning and Polly Best. Also mentions Abbey Shivers and children of John Sherrod and children of Robert Sherrod.
I hope this helps - it seems clear that your Abbey Shivers is the daughter of Robert and Lydia Sherrod.
